Adults Have Many Options Today to Get Straighter Teeth

My crooked teeth always bothered me, but I didn't want to wear typical metal braces for years as an adult. I thought that was my only option until I brought up the subject one day to my dentist. He told me that there were so many more options today that I should consider. I made an appointment with an orthodontist to discuss my options, and he said that I was a great candidate for invisible teeth aligners. He said that other people would not even notice them in my mouth, and that I likely only needed to wear them for a year. I was so happy I made that first appointment, because I now have straight teeth and am so happy with my smile. I created this blog to help other adults realize they have many discreet teeth-straightening options today. No should live with a smile they don't love!

3 Reasons Having Properly Aligned Teeth Can Be Beneficial To Your Overall Health

Not everybody has an even smile and well aligned teeth, but having severely crooked teeth can mean trouble when it comes to your health. There are various steps that dentists can take to align the teeth and jaws, enabling you to chew properly and encourage you to smile just a little wider. These next three reasons for having your teeth aligned spell out plainly how your health can be benefited by taking corrective measures.

1. Better Digestion - When your top and bottom rows of teeth are lined up with Invisalign or traditional braces, you can bite and chew with improved provision. You will have fewer toothaches, and all of the food that you consume will be better digested when you are able to chew it thoroughly. Proper chewing habits are the key to avoiding indigestion and other digestive problems that can start as a result of having crooked teeth.

2. Lower Risk Of Jaw Pain And Disease - Dentists have employed tools such as Invisalign to rapidly realign the teeth of their patients, allowing for relief from jaw pain and discomfort when opening and closing their mouths. Misaligned teeth can not only cause swelling and pain in the jaws; it can also wear down teeth more quickly, leading some people to need crowns or even total tooth replacement. If your jaws hurt after eating or you feel discomfort when talking, you may benefit from Invisalign or another system that can help to properly realign your teeth.

3. Fewer Infections - A lot of people are unaware of the fact that serious infections can begin in the mouth and then travel to other parts of their bodies. In the event that your teeth are not aligned properly, it will be easier for food to become lodged in your mouth causing infections to begin more frequently. With a retainers, Invisalign or even a palate expander, your teeth can be moved so that gaps disappear and overlapping teeth are straightened properly.

Although having crooked teeth is largely a cosmetic problem, there are many instances where having your teeth aligned goes much further than wanting to improve the way that they appear. If you find yourself wanting to skip meals because of the pain you experience when chewing, reviewing your teeth alignment options will change the quality of your life. To protect your health both now and beyond, have your teeth examined by for misalignment issues by a licensed dentist.
