Adults Have Many Options Today to Get Straighter Teeth

My crooked teeth always bothered me, but I didn't want to wear typical metal braces for years as an adult. I thought that was my only option until I brought up the subject one day to my dentist. He told me that there were so many more options today that I should consider. I made an appointment with an orthodontist to discuss my options, and he said that I was a great candidate for invisible teeth aligners. He said that other people would not even notice them in my mouth, and that I likely only needed to wear them for a year. I was so happy I made that first appointment, because I now have straight teeth and am so happy with my smile. I created this blog to help other adults realize they have many discreet teeth-straightening options today. No should live with a smile they don't love!

4 Tips To Make Your Next Dentist's Appointment Super Comfortable

Lots of people cringe at the idea of spending time in the dentist's chair. It can be uncomfortable after a while, especially if you're not following these four tips. Make sure that your next visit to the dentist isn't uncomfortable and practice these tips when you go!

Stretch

One of the first things you should do, ideally just before sitting down, is to stretch a little. Loosen up your shoulders, roll your neck from side to side, and give your back a big, long stretch. Being flexible and loosened up will help you to be able to sit comfortably for a long period of time. This should help to prevent you from becoming stiff and uncomfortable.

Lips

Make sure that you apply lip balm in the days leading up to your dentist's appointment. If your lips are even a little bit dry, it can feel uncomfortable to keep your mouth open for a long period of time. If they're more than a little dry, you could end up with your lips bleeding. That's not something that you want to go through, so make sure to focus on lubricating your lips in the days before your appointment so that your lips are well-hydrated and comfortable on the day of the visit.

Pain

Having your teeth cleaned can sometimes be uncomfortable, especially if you have gum disease. While your dentist will do everything in their power to make you feel comfortable, there's no harm in coming to the office prepared nonetheless.

Consider taking a mild over-the-counter pain reliever just before going in for your appointment. Something like ibuprofen, aspirin, or acetaminophen will help to reduce any discomfort that you have while your teeth are being scaled and your gums are being flossed. Consult with a dentist before doing this if you're going to have a more in-depth procedure than a cleaning.

Ask

Lastly, don't be shy about talking to your dentist and hygienist about your comfort level. Dental cleanings and procedures aren't meant to be torturous, and yours doesn't have to be uncomfortable. Simply ask to take a short break so that you can loosen up again, rest your jaw, and have a sip of water if you need it. Then you can get back to it.

These tips will help you to have a much more comfortable dental cleaning the next time you head to the office. Don't be afraid to ask for breaks and make sure your dentist knows if you're uncomfortable at any time.
