Adults Have Many Options Today to Get Straighter Teeth

My crooked teeth always bothered me, but I didn't want to wear typical metal braces for years as an adult. I thought that was my only option until I brought up the subject one day to my dentist. He told me that there were so many more options today that I should consider. I made an appointment with an orthodontist to discuss my options, and he said that I was a great candidate for invisible teeth aligners. He said that other people would not even notice them in my mouth, and that I likely only needed to wear them for a year. I was so happy I made that first appointment, because I now have straight teeth and am so happy with my smile. I created this blog to help other adults realize they have many discreet teeth-straightening options today. No should live with a smile they don't love!

How Do You Care For New Dentures?

If you're new to wearing dentures, one of the first questions you may have is how to take care of them. They are not treated the same as normal teeth, which really only require regular flossing and brushing. Follow these tips to ensure that you are keeping your dentures in great condition and get a long lifespan out of them.

Remove Your Dentures At Night

It is always a good idea to take out your dentures before you go to bed. This not only gives you a chance to clean the dentures but gives your gums a rest from having them in your mouth all day. In addition, removing dentures at night can prevent the damage if you grind your teeth while you sleep. You may not realize it, but those subtle movements will cause the dentures to wear down prematurely and cause the need for premature replacement if you are not careful.

Clean Your Dentures Daily

Your dentures are going to look pristine on the first day that you have them, and you'll want to do what it takes to keep them that way. That's why it is worth taking the time to clean them every single day just as if they were your normal teeth. The good news is that you should only have to do it at the end of the day. If you don't clean your dentures, you'll end up with plaque on them that cause stains and odours that are hard to make go away.

Wash Your Dentures Over A Sink

Many people don't realize how fragile denture can be, since dropping them can cause some serious damage that will require repair. A good tip is to fill up your sink with water so that if the dentures fall they will be cushioned by the water.

Rinse With Cool Or Warm Water

Dentures are something that you always want to clean in cool or warm water. While you may think that hot water is going to get the dentures cleaner, those hot temperatures actually have a chance of ruining your dentures over time. That's because the heat can cause the dentures to warp, which will impact how comfortable they feel when you are wearing them. This is definitely something that you don't want to happen if it can be avoided.
