Adults Have Many Options Today to Get Straighter Teeth

My crooked teeth always bothered me, but I didn't want to wear typical metal braces for years as an adult. I thought that was my only option until I brought up the subject one day to my dentist. He told me that there were so many more options today that I should consider. I made an appointment with an orthodontist to discuss my options, and he said that I was a great candidate for invisible teeth aligners. He said that other people would not even notice them in my mouth, and that I likely only needed to wear them for a year. I was so happy I made that first appointment, because I now have straight teeth and am so happy with my smile. I created this blog to help other adults realize they have many discreet teeth-straightening options today. No should live with a smile they don't love!

How To Avoid Cavities: Tips For You And Your Family

Cavities are one of the most common dental problems and can cause a lot of pain and discomfort. Luckily, there are many things you can do to avoid them.

This post will discuss some tips for preventing cavities to help keep teeth healthy for you and your whole family.

Brush Your Teeth Regularly

Brushing your teeth is one of the most important things you can do to prevent cavities. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day and use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride helps strengthen teeth and makes them more resistant to cavities.

Cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth produce acids that can break down tooth enamel. Fluoride helps to repair this damage and prevent cavities. Fluoride toothpaste also contains antimicrobial agents that help kill cavity-causing bacteria.

To help your family stick to a proper dental routine, try to make it fun. Let everyone choose their own toothbrush and toothpaste, and make sure to brush for two minutes. You can even set a timer and brush along to a fun song. This strategy can be really helpful if you have young children because they can start to develop good habits at a young age and avoid cavities altogether.

If you are not sure how much toothpaste to use, ask your family dentist. They will be able to give you specific instructions based on the ages of your family members.

Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet is another important way to prevent cavities. Foods high in sugar can cause cavities, so it is important to limit sugary snacks and drinks.

Sugary foods include candy, cake, cookies, soda, and fruit juice. You should also avoid sticky foods like dried fruit and chewy candy. These types of foods can be hard to brush off of teeth, and they can increase the risk of cavities. The sugar usually stays on teeth and provides a food source for bacteria. Bacteria then produce acids that can slowly eat away at the tooth surface.

Encourage your family to incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into their diet. These foods are not only good for your teeth, but they are also good for your overall health.

You can also try to make meals and snacks at home more often. This way, you can control the ingredients and ensure everyone gets the nutrients they need.

These are just a few tips to help you and your family avoid cavities. If you have any questions or would like to schedule regular dental checkups, contact a local family dentistry clinic.
